I took a drive up to Combe Down and then walked down to Prior Park. This was a long “lunch break” for me as I needed to get back to work but the clouds and blue sky were too much of a temptation.
This iconic Palladian bridge is not easy to do justice, it’s beauty is such. I’ve done my best. It was created in the 18th century by local entrepreneur Ralph Allen who revolutionised the postal service. He invented the Internet of his day saving the postal service millions of pounds which would be billions in today’s money. I think he earned it. Ralph Allen took advice from ‘Capability’ Brown and the poet Alexander Pope. Tthe site is now owned and maintained by the National Trust.
